Patients: Appointment Preparation

Bennardi Barberio General Dentistry return
Good news patients of Dr. Bennardi and Dr. Barberio. Governor Wolf has given us the go ahead to see ALL of our patients with and without aerosols as long as we follow certain protocols. Dr. Bennardi and Dr. Barberio have been tirelessly working to find the proper PPE to not only keep you safe, but their entire team safe. We purchased North 7700 respirators and paid a company from Denver, CO to fly in to fit test us and train us on proper use and disinfection techniques thus making us OSHA certified. Each of our treatment rooms have an air filtration device running with a HEPA filter and UV light that treats the air. Along with our usual sterilization and disinfection procedures, we also will be fogging an all-natural disinfectant at the end of the day and will be disinfecting public places throughout the day. We also will be changing head covering, surgical gowns, gloves, and face shields after every patient. Please click on the Patients:Appointment Preparation link on our homepage and find out what your responsibilities are to keep you, our other patients, and our staff safe.

Thank you for your patience and we cannot wait to get you back on track to excellent oral health.

Extractions

Woman smiling after healing from tooth extractions by dentist in Muncy, PA.A tooth extraction is the procedure done to remove a tooth that is damaged beyond repair from its socket in the jawbone. Extractions are also done to remove wisdom teeth that may be impacted or create future problems.

Many extractions can be performed in our Muncy office; however, more complicated procedures may be referred to one of our trusted oral surgeons.

Why are teeth extracted?

•  Severely decayed teeth
•  Periodontal disease leading to bone loss
•  Fractured in such a way that it is impossible or impractical to repair
•  Badly positioned (impacted wisdom teeth)
•  Non-functional or poorly functional teeth that should be replaced with a bridge, denture, or dental implant

Extractions are generally classified as either non-surgical (also known as "simple") or surgical (involving cutting through the gums and tooth). A simple procedure can quickly become a surgical procedure if the tooth fractures or refuses to loosen under pressure. We perform these procedures only after making the extraction site(s) profoundly numb.

Tooth Extraction Post-Operative Instructions

Following tooth extraction you may experience bleeding, oozing, soreness or moderate to severe pain.

Bleeding should stop within 8–12 hours following the extraction. If you experience significant bleeding past this time please call our office at (570) 546-3419 immediately. Oozing of pink fluid for 1–2 days is normal.

Discomfort following the tooth extraction is best managed with a mild analgesic like Tylenol, Advil. If you experience severe pain that lasts more than 2–3 days after your extraction please call our office.

Healing should be as smooth as possible following tooth extraction. It is important to not disturb the extraction site. Remember to eat a soft diet and avoid vigorous rinsing for 24 hours following the extraction.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to call us at (570) 546-3419.
